Accepting Video Input over USB

If you think about new features for TomPlayer

Hi Bruno,

I come back to you because i tried to build your driver and i have some bad news for you... :-(
So, as i mentioned, the 2.6.13 kernel on which most Tomtom releases are based is too old (it lacks some DVB stuff)

So i downloaded the release based on the 2.6.23.17 version and built it : IT was not obvious because this version cannot build with the compiler provided by TOmtom ! (which is too old).
Never mind, a cross compiler generation later, i was able to build this kernel and to give a try at your driver build...
Unfortunately i realized at this point of time that the driver you sent to me is not fully provided as source code ! It has a prebuilt object (in x86 format of course!)
So it is one of these pieces of crap that should not even be allowed to load in a linux kernel and it is useless for us...:-((

As i really wanted to help, i checked whether a real mainlined driver could be used for your device.
In fact i use for my own avermedia tuner the free mainlined driver dvb_usb_af9015..
Even if that driver would be able to make your device work then iw ould have to backport it to 2.6.23.17 or to foreport tomtom patches to a newer kernel as it is available only since 2.6.28 i think...
But in fact, it does not worth the pain because i found this thread : http://www.linuxtv.org/pipermail/linux- ... 25557.html that explains that your device is not the exactly the same as mine (we have the same tuner and demodulator but unfortunately not the same usb-bridge) so the driver i mention (dvb_usb_af9015) will not work for you as such.

I am quite sorry, the idea was appealing and it would have been cool to make it work on tomtom but it seems to be quite difficult given these facts. I am sorry i have done my best to find a solution...

To answer your other questions :
-My HD video are 1440*1080
- The ttsystem is the file loaded by the boot loader on startup
it is made of a linux kernel and a Root File System(cpio archive)

Stéphan

Hi Stéphan,

No problem at least you tried :P

So it is one of these pieces of crap that should not even be allowed to load in a linux kernel and it is useless for us...:-((

So that means that will only compile for x86 ? I was trying to build it to PS2 Linux (2.6.17) but is impossible then...
Well thanks for the try!

The usual question : Have you already bought the usb cable??

hi @ all!

it's really great what's going on here! i've been dreaming about using my TT as a display for a usb cam since my first TTgo. meanwhile i'm using a TTgo730T and after reading the complete thread i think my dreams will come true ;) ... but still i have some questions or things where i need an okay if i understoof everything allright ...

* i need to install TTplayer, the original navi software keeps running without any restrictions
* instead of selecting and playing a video file i'm selecting a (linux-) device folder to access the usb connected camera
* i have do make my own cable, there is no finnished cable to be ordered somewhere
* i have to use a usb camera, not a simple video camera

* can i still use the tmc receiver and the charger at the same time while the cam is connected, maybe by a y-splitter-cable?
* do i have to download a special version of the TTplayer or the tomtom core?
* can a dumb user like me use it somehow like plug and play? ;)

<edit>
maybe to explain my idea: i want to connect a simple and cheap (usb-) camera (like you can get for a few bucks on ebay) and place it somewhere in the back of my car looking out ouf the rear window... i would use a usb cam as well as a simple video camera... and for parking into a small lot backwards through the TT and the cam... so maybe no extra cable is required, just cutting off the connector of the usb cam and doing something fitting the TT there...
</edit>

thanks in advance for help and explanations and sorry about my english!

cheers from vienna!

Hi bruno !

As you know at last i have ordered my cable : i got no immediate results but now i manage to mount and work with a USB stick by using a usb hub between the tomtom and th stick...
So not very convenient but fully functional ! ;-) Many thanks...

Regarding the cam application, it should be possible to plug the cam the same way as the usb key.
Then i could add video4linux support in the kernel i think ...
Yet be aware that most tomtom kernels are based on 2.6.13 which is quite old and so we will have access only to the features/devices that were available in that quite old version...
More infos about video4linux here : http://linuxtv.org/

you need USB_HID support but it should be already built in the kernel from my standalone image...
