Carminat TomTom

Postby hi0b » 07 Mar 2010, 19:04

A far as I've searched the forum, there is no support of tomplayer for this TT. And it's a big shame for me. is there any way that you guys to make it work? I've looked on the Internet a little and found out it is based on on TomTom GO (x20). Generally this tomtom is embedded in renault cars. i'm waiting for response. From myself i can offer a help in a form of testing the software.

the navcore:

Hi,

You are right : you are the first user to speak about the carminat tomtom.
How have you tried to install tomplayer ?
as a standalone image or integrated in nav software ?

If is is based on the TT GO, it is likely that we can find a solution to make it work...

actually second, but nevermind:).i've installed it as standalone, but after some time i realized that this may be the problem. i'll try to integrate it with nav today when i find the time.
"whether the following path /mnt/movinand/tomplayer/ (For instance, it is the right path when TomPlayer is stored on an external SD-Card on a TomTom GOx20)" - i think that this extract from your wiki can be helpfull in getting it to work.

so it didnt work. i'm slowly giving up after numerous walks to car and back to my pc. or maybe i did something wrong. i placed sdk.. and tomplayer folders on original sdcard with maps(this is only way to connect to device, there is no other way). set configs with valid paths. The tomplayer icon didnt show up in menu, even after making menu in tomtom menu builder. have any idea?

Well if placing the sdkRegistry folder does not allow you to view the icon the the navigation menu , then we are in, trouble
You can try this tutorial : http://www.tomplayer.net/wiki/doku.php?id=en:tutov8

I also plan to create a new standalone version which will be based on a newer kernel and likely to boot a recent device like yours...

nevermind. i can watch movie on my HTPC ;-)

:).
thats exactly a tutorial (one of) which i followed. well, we could work it out, but i doubt there is any way to get to internal memory without some help of mechanic. maybe i could find something on the internet.

EDIT:
i havent found.
can u explain me what ttsystem file contains?

Hi

I just had a look on the internet and it seems that no plugin works on the carminat (at least a a plugin integrated in navigation software).
So there is no hope with this method...

Can you tell me what is the OS version on your tomtom (you can see it on the informations screen : click on the satellite reception icon in the lower right of the map view, then click the 'version' button again in the lower right.)

The ttsystem file is a file made of the Linux Kernel and the RFS (root file system). It can be built with this tool : http://www.opentom.org/Mkttimage

In the standalone version of Tomplayer, i provide my own build of the kernel and boot scripts to directly launch tomplayer.
If i am able to build a kernel that boots on your device then i am likely to be able to provide a working tomplayer (as a standalone app), that's why i am asking for your OS version : to check if this version is available on Tomtom GPL download page and build a new ttsystem file...

so all i could read was that it's version 8.841. is that what you asked for?

The most weird thing is that when i was making backup of sdcard this time, i saw that there was no ttsystem file. i would swear that it was when i was making this thread.

so i did it and it did nothing, so the only way as you said is standalone version. but it seems that this tt dont need ttsystem file to boot(after downgrading to 7.xxx i emptied and copied backup files without ttsystem and the os was 8.841). i think it is almost imposible to to without some more specification from tt/renault(which obviously they dont share). do you have any idea?

you are right : it seems that this tomtom is very closed.

It looks like renault does not want their client to use the GPS the way they would like to ...

If you have a look on your sdcard with a card reader, are you sure there is no ttsystem file on it ?

It seems as booting dont depend on ttsystem file, but i'm not sure. Maybe it's transfered to some internal memory after inserting sdcard. Dunno.
Thanks for help. If you improve your standalone version somehow, ill give a try;). Propably they want to provide safe easy equipment with no video watching while driving;).

What about eclipse tt for toyota( i thinks so). It was the same problem, wasnt it? Any progress?

I can provide you with some file from my sdcard. There is some interesting ext image called loop... containing some data. Is it in every tt? I think the best way to find solution would be comparing files from simillar tt from which we could learn something about architecture of carminat.

But i think ill pass. It isnt so important;)

Hi,

Yes you are right !
But it should be possible given what i can see here : http://www.opentom.org/Carminat_TomTom_Hardware : there is a ttsystem file in /mnt/movinand (which is th mount point of the external sdcard)

About eclipse the problem is different : It works great out of the craddle but it reboots when connected to the car ...

I send you a private msg for a test

Look that in /mnt/flash there is ttsys.dta file, which is propably main kernel. This is why when i downgraded core on sd( i copied also ttsystem file) it loaded ttsystem from sd and nextly after coming back to old(never) version without sd it loaded 8.841 version from internal.
