Can't play audio files

Postby tomstorm » 30 Nov 2009, 19:44

Hi there, im having a bit of trouble getting my TOMTOM GO 550 to play mp3 files.

I tried to play all kind of encodes, cbr, vbr, high and low bitrates, stereo or joint stereo but all of them just start playing for a fraction of a second and then stop. The same happens when im skipping forward or tapping play/resume on the player. The "progress bar" keeps going on as if the file is playing.

After sorting installation and calibration issues im a bit disappointed, ill be grateful if you can provide me some help.

Thank you in advance.

I want to add that the same thing happens when playing video files. The video shows perfectly but the sound doesnt. You can hear it briefly at the beginning and if you skip forward, then stops.

Mine will lose sound while watching a movie onece in a while, and I will have to exit out and restart tomplayer to get the sound back.

TomTom info is in my signature.

Hi,

this is strange : are you sure you haven't activated FM trtansmitter?
(in fact i voluntary mute the speaker when the fm is activated : it could explain you hear the sound for a few milliseconds and then nothing...)

Reagrds

Hi, I am having the exact same problem as 'tomstorm' on my TomTom GO750 with the latest tomplayer.

Audio files play initially for a fraction of a second before the audio cuts off while the progress bar keeps moving.
Video files show the picture perfectly however audio plays only only for a split-second when using the fast-forward button.

Also FM is definatley 'off'.

Puzzled...

Strange,

Can you post your tomplayer.ini file please?
By the time i have just rebuilt tomplayer and removed the code that disables the speaker, can you test with this binary and say whether it solves your issue ?

Regards

Hi, thanks for the reply.

The tomplayer file you supplied makes no difference to the problem, my tomplayer.ini file is as follows
--------------------------

[general]
filter_video = ^.*\.(mpeg|mpg|avi|mkv)$
filter_audio = ^.*\.(mp3|ogg)$
video_dir = /mnt/movinand/Videos
audio_dir = /mnt/movinand/Sounds
screen_saver_to = 10
enable_screen_saver = 1
fm_transmitter = 87000000
enable_fm_transmitter = 0
diapo_enabled = 1
diapo_filter = ^.*\.(gif|png|jpg|bmp)$
diapo_delay = 5
diapo_path = /mnt/movinand/Pictures/
enable_small_text = 0

[video_skin]
filename = ./skins/video/video_blue.zip

[audio_skin]
filename = ./skins/audio/audio_blue.zip
-------------------------------------------

I wonder if the problem could be the mp3/avi files I am using and their bitrate etc... though the problem occurs on all files...

OK thanks for your feedback,
I agree with you : the symptoms tend to prove the file is not the root cause of this problem.
Besides your configuration is perfectly correct.

I have checked : The binary i posted yesterday was still likely to mute he speaker : I have performed some additional modifications.
You will find in the attached archive, 2 new binaries (start_engine and tomplayer)
Please try to replace them on your device to check whether it helps...

Hi folks,

I am currently playing around with a TomTom Go 9000 - installed the tomplayer on a external SD card - and facing the same issue.
The sound (video and audio) just appears for a fragment of a second - and then disappeared.
I checked the fm-transmitter settings. definetly turned off.
So I checked fm transmitter functionality - works fine when turned on.

Ok, now here is the hook:
I connected a headset to the Go 9000 - here is the sound you're looking for ;.)
No idea how to turn on the intenal speakers in tomplayer, but I have the Go 9000 connected to the car via AUX-in connector, anyway.

Hope this helps,
Markus

BTW: Tomplayer is just awesome :-)

hi mannheim,

Many thanks for your post : Your tests bring useful hints to understand the issue..
Have you tried the modified files i have posted here previsouly to check whether you have the sound on internal speaker with them ? (you should given my current understanding of the problem...)

best regards,

OK

Please test my patched binaries and tell me if that helps then ...

I have posted some files in this thread on december the 17th that should help and nobody tried them and sent a message to say whether it helps or not.
Be aware that i do not have the required tomtom device to reproduce and investigate this problem : everything works fine on my tomtom. so i need your tests and feedback regarding the patchs i post here...

Regards

Many thanks for your post !

This is an issue when i probe whether a headset is connected or not : On your device this test returns true even if no headset is connected and i mute the internal speaker while i shouldn't...
I think i am going to add a "no auto-mute" option for the next release to have a generic correction...

Enjoy tomplayer..
