Tom Tom Eclipse reboot

Any problem with TomPlayer ? you can ask here

Postby ghiserb » 13 Oct 2008, 19:52

Hi!
I have a Tom Tom Eclipse for Toyota, firmware version 7.831.
I've installed Tom Player on my Tom Tom.
It has been installed on my SD Card with Tom Tom software installed.

I've this problem: every time I try to open the TomPlayer software in my menu, my Tom Tom reboots automatically.

Can you help me?
Thanks

Unhappily, I don't know your tomtom, have you any description of this model ?

Before your tomtom reboots, can you see tomplayer menu ?
Have you tried the stand alone image ?

Thank you for your reply.

It's a special Tom Tom for Toyota cars.

Some information here:

http://www.eclipse-web.com/avn2210p/index.html

Before your tomtom reboots, can you see tomplayer menu ?

No...

Have you tried the stand alone image ?

No. What is this?

bye

>>> UPDATE:

I tried to install TomPlayer on a old version of my Tom Tom firmware (version 6.552) and it works!
So it's a problem with firmware version...

OK,

So it is likely to be a problem with integration in TT menu (With "standard" Tomtom, we have this kind of problems with navigation software V8 and above...)
Definitively standalone image may be an interesting option :

This is a special image for tomtom that enables you to boot directly on Tomplayer
You install it and tomplayer on your sdcard, you turn on your tomtom and you are running Tomplayer ...
To go back to navigation you just have to remove the sdcard and turn tomtom on

See http://www.tomplayer.net/forum/viewtopic.php?id=108 for a link to download

Installation notes:

On an empty SD-card root:
- Copy this ttsystem file (Provided in standalone package - 2.3MB)
- Copy the tomplayer directory (provided in tomplayer package)
- Create a audio directory and put your music in it
- Create a video directory and put your video in it

Hi,
I tried Tom Player 0.220 on my Tom Tom Toyota (TNS400) for Yaris, but after connecting the TT to the car, the Tom Tom reboot itself after some seconds.
I tried also copying the ttsystem 0.212 on the SD card.
The firmware version of my TT is 7.832 but was the same with the 7.831
Have you any idea?

At the end, I would like to know if you know some way to use the loudspeakers of the car by Tom Player.

Thank you!

OK, in fact, i am currently working on the specific case of the eclipse version with a French user...

For now, getting sound on the car speakers is not possible but it should be in a very short amount of time (in the next release i hope)
For the reboot problem : We are investigating... I think it is a reset signal that comes from the car because the navigation software is not alive...

If you are able to get any informations about the connectors signals for instance that would help us...

I hope eclipse model will be fully supported in the future (for now it is only if you get the TT out of its car support)

Have you made any progress on the original TomTom Eclipse / Toyota units? Or is it a lost cause?

Sorry for the delay of my answer, i was on holidays..

No progress for now, i made some experiments with a user but it was a slow and annoying task and he gave up...
The main problem is that i have no available device to experiment by myself of course
So i think our only hope is that a developer with a eclipse tomtom join the project ...

Hi pablotron,

Unfortunately i have not been able to progress but i may have an idea to avoid these spurious reboots.
If you are ready to test i can try to send you experimental stuff...

Stephan

You made it!!!!! It works!!!! I tell you the steps I did. I dowloaded the tomplayer files and wrote them into the SD card. I had to keep the original ttsystem file, because if you overwrite it, the tomtom keeps rebooting. Then I copied the files you sent to me in the tomplayer directory. After that I created a custom tomtom menu, so that you can see tomplayer buttom, otherwise, the buttom keeps hiden.

You can play video and music while listening a CD and tuner. If you are using the tomplayer and then you use de USB player, it freezes and after that it reboots. I think it's absolutely normal because the tomtom/radio hasn't enough CPU to keep doing that two things. This is not a problem.

Now I'm thinking about two things. Would it be possible to play the audio through car speakers? I think it would be possible making the tomtom believe that the audio source comes from the built-in USB or copying the comunication way the tomtom uses when you play music via USB. I mean, tomtom can "speak" through car speakers (radars, POI's, USB player, GPS commands), and tomplayer should be able to do the same.

And the other question I'm dreaming about is; would it be possible to use the USB as SDcard to play videos in it like you do via sdcard? I think this is really hard, but dreaming is free xDD

With this two things the Toyota Radio would turn into a completely fuctional Radio/DVDplayer which cost 1000$ or more here in Europe.

Ah, one last thing I haven't told you. The Eclipse Radio has an USB, but the files are read by the tomtom. If you don't have the tomtom in the radio you can't play them. So the radio does nothing in the USB player, all the work is done by the tomtom unit.

Thak you very much for your work. We really apreciate it. I'm giving you the thanks in the name of a big spanish Eclipse owners comunity. We have no words to thank you what you've done here. One more time, than you very very very much.
